Frustrations

Have you a set a goal for the day? To go for a short walk, working on a job application or writing a concept for your work? At the end of the day, you have realised, you have not gone for your walk. You also have not completed the concept you were working on. It leaves you frustrated and stressed! After digging deeper and reflecting on yourself, there were valid reasons:

  • Helping your sick mum
  • Cleaning the flat
  • Doing the groceries
  • Answering WhatsApp messages and Emails
  • Calling some friends or family members

Life happened, the day was over and you did not finish what you planned to do.

The why behind the not doing?

  • How important was it for me to go for the walk or finish the task you had in your hands?
  • Are you easily distracted?
  • Or there just responsibilities you have to do, but you not managing it at all? Should I ask for help?
  • Can you drop some tasks?
  • That phone call will wait, until you have finished your tasks?
  • Was answering that Email really super urgent?
  • Should you clean the flat on the weekend or in the evenings?

Often, it feels easier, do everything else outside our priority list. Being committed to what we prioritised, requires a decision, discipline and doing it every day.

Committment means being honest with myself about what’s important to me. I need to understand why I do what I do. It involves acknowledging the sacrifices I am willing to make to achieve it. For me going to exercise two times a week at Crossfit is a committment. It’s not always easy to stick to it. I have a training partner, Maria who helps me to keep me accountable to my committment and the reverse.

What can you do differently to achieve your goals?

It’s Spring in Berlin, trees are green, flowers are blooming, vacation is in the air. I hear the sounds of children lining up at the ice-cream shop nearby. It’s really tempting to join the action.

Blossoming flowers in Berlin

It’s daily a decision for me, to focus on my vision and activities to help others find their way. Every day is not the same. Some days are better than others. Especially when there is a family or friend emergency, it calls for reprioritisation of my tasks.

The gift I have, is to decide new everyday. When I am distracted, I go back to the vision I have written for myself. It reminds me of why I do what I do. It helps to anchor me, back to focus!

We often have friends visiting Berlin with the spontaneous chance to meet. Friends have a high priority in my life. Planning how to meet them, means being flexible with my planning, without distracting from my vision.

There are times, when there is limited flexibility with adjusting the plan. For example, when I am facilitating a workshop, giving a keynote speech or scheduled appointments. I have given my commitment, to the people and organisations, I serve. There is a responsibility that comes with it. In the case of sickness, I would adjust my priorities and respect the time to get healthy again.

„Healthy Egoism“ – loving myself first. I do the things I have prioritised first. Then, I orientate the rest of my world in a sensible way. Who is important to you? What is important for you?

Setting priorities for yourself, friends, family, society, work, health and spiritual well-being, can birth new energy. Go ahead to staying committed to what you set out to do! Eager to hear about your experiences.
